When connecting the remote debugger to a Private Mendix Platform environment the configured password is not accepted: Incorrect debugger password specified

Issue

Connecting the Studio Pro debugger to an environment hosted on the Private Mendix Platform throws the error Incorrect debugger password specified when providing the correctly configured password.

Environment

Applications hosted on Private Mendix Platform v.2.8.0 and newer.

Cause

Setting a debugger password for an environment on the environment details page or the deploy API encodes the password twice.

Solution / Workaround

Until the issue is addressed, the password used in Studio Pro to connect to the debugger needs to be the Base64 value of the configured password.

For example, when the debugger password is configured as: Test1234!, retrieve the Base64-encoded value of the password by going to base64encode.org or run the following command on the corresponding command line:

powershell:

powershell -NoProfile -Command "[Convert]::ToBase64String([Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetBytes('`Test1234!`'))"

bash:

echo -n 'Test1234!'  | base64

The output for the example will be VGVzdDEyMzQh. Using this Base64-encoded value will allow Studio Pro's debugger to connect as normal.
