Mendix AI Assistance (Maia) Usage Limits

Issue

Mendix AI Assistance (Maia) helps developers build applications faster and with higher quality by providing AI-powered assistance throughout the development process.

When using Maia inside Mendix Studio Pro or the Mendix Portal, the following errors occur:

  • Before Studio Pro 11.12.0:
Failed to communicate with the AI service. Please try again.
  • From Studio Pro 11.12.0:
You've reached your usage limit
Your organization has used all available Maia units for this period. For more information, see Mendix AI Assitance.

Environment

Studio Pro 10.12.0 and newer

Cause

To use Maia, every company receives 2,400 free Maia Units per month, with the option to purchase additional units as needed.

If these error messages appear in Studio Pro, it means that all available Maia Units allocated to the company for the current month have been consumed.

Solution/Workaround

Once 2,400 free Maia Units are consumed, additional Maia units need to be purchased to continue using the service. For uninterrupted access to Maia capabilities, there are three options.

First, check whether the company has available Cloud Tokens. Company admins can review the Cloud Token balance via Mendix Control Center > Entitlements Cloud Tokens

If Cloud Tokens are available, the company admin should follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Control Center > Maia Resources
  2. Select Provision Resource
  3. Choose how many Cloud Tokens to allocate. Each Cloud Token gives you 100 Maia Units per month.
  4. The new capacity is active immediately. Studio Pro unblocks and Maia Make becomes available again.

If no Cloud Tokens are available, please contact the Mendix account manager to purchase additional tokens.

Please note that the Maia Units reset each month. Unused units do not roll over.

  • Custom AI Provider:

It is available as a beta feature in Studio Pro 11.12 and newer versions. The configuration steps are described in the Configuring a Custom AI Provider document and should be followed accordingly.

  • Studio Pro MCP Server

This feature is available in Studio Pro 11.10 and newer versions.

When external agents or AI tools are connected to the Studio Pro MCP Server, those tools consume tokens from the configured LLM provider account each time they interact with Maia. Since these requests occur outside the Mendix environment, usage and billing details are managed through the LLM provider’s dashboard rather than within Mendix. For more information on the Studio Pro MCP Server, see Studio Pro MCP Server.

If there are questions or concerns in the meantime, please contact Mendix Support.
