Maia chat is unavailable due to fair use policy suspension: Failed to communicate with the AI service

Issue

When using the Maia chat feature inside Mendix Studio Pro or the Mendix Portal, the following error occurs on the affected account:

Failed to communicate with the AI service. Please try again. 

This limitation is account-specific. Other accounts within the same company can use Maia without errors.

Environment

Studio Pro 10.12.0 and newer

Cause

The affected account has been temporarily suspended due to high consumption patterns that triggered the platform's Fair Use Policy. This account-level restriction prevents access to the Maia AI chat service, while other accounts remain unaffected.

Solution/Workaround

This error indicates that the account has been suspended under the Fair Use Policy. The following conditions apply:

  • Automatic reactivation: The account will be automatically reactivated within seven days. No manual intervention is required.
  • No action required: No action is required from the affected account. Access will resume automatically once the review period concludes.
