Issue

When attempting to install Studio Pro on Windows, the popup:

Windows protected your PC

appears, giving the warning:

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.

Environment

Studio Pro v10.24.17 or newer.

Studio Pro v11.6.5 or newer.

Studio Pro v11.9.0 or newer.

Cause

This issue is related to Microsoft’s reputation system, which is one of the mechanisms behind the SmartScreen protection.
Mendix uses Microsoft’s Trusted Signing service (Azure Signing) to sign artifacts. Signing using Azure Signing is intended to increase the baseline reputation. Mendix has verified this setup and has found no issues.
 

It appears that there has been a change on the Microsoft side with regards to the reputation system, as there are similar external reports.

Solution / Workaround

This behaviour can disappear after some time, but differs case by case.

There is no solution or workaround at the moment.
