Introduction
This article describes the integration of AppDynamics with Mendix Cloud applications that have enabled AppDynamics. Furthermore, how metrics are sent from Mendix Cloud to AppDynamics and what is and is not under Mendix's control are also covered in this article.
AppDynamics is a monitoring and analysis tool for cloud applications. It provides monitoring for servers and databases, among others. Additional monitoring of apps running on the Mendix Cloud can be done with AppDynamics. Refer to AppDynamics for Mendix Cloud for information regarding prerequisites and how to connect the app node to AppDynamics.

Details
The AppDynamics integration on Mendix Cloud consists of two parts:
- AppDynamics Java Agent
-
The AppDynamics Java Agent runs without any additional configuration. The AppDynamics Controller, which is the AppDynamics user interface, receives a few metrics that are collected here. Mendix has no control over the metrics that the AppDynamics Java Agent collects. In addition, these metrics are available in the AppDynamics Controller under the Agent and JVM sections (see screenshot below).
-
- AppDynamics Machine Agent
-
AppDynamics Machine Agent runs without any additional configuration and offers the ability to send custom metrics. Since this is how all Mendix metrics are sent out, AppDynamics Machine Agent metrics are under Mendix's control. In addition, these metrics are available in the AppDynamics Controller under the Custom Metrics, Hardware Resources, and Individual Nodes section (see screenshot below).
-
If there are some unexpected values in the AppDynamics Java Agent metrics described in Step 1 (e.g., agent and JVM metrics), Mendix recommends contacting AppDynamics Support. Keep in mind that an AppDynamics account is needed to request support. For any questions regarding AppDynamics Machine Agent metrics, reach out to Mendix Support.
