UI/UX changes not effective after new deployment

Issue

When making styling changes on some pages and then deploying the new package, the changes are not visible to the end users. The changes will take effect if the browser cache is cleared or a hard reload is performed (Ctrl+5).

Environment

Mendix Client

Cause

Cache busting is when a browser is told by the web server to redownload page resources (such as images, stylesheets, or JavaScript) because of changes in those resources. Mendix automatically takes care of this by adding dynamic query parameters on top of the resources in login.html and index.html

The cachebust parameter in index.html is set to a fixed value, instead of dynamic. Because of this, the application will not get a signal to redownload the page after a new deployment.

Example of hard-coded parameter:

<script src="mxclientsystem/mxui/mxui.js?638427417461364406"></script>

Solution/Workaround

Whenever you need to customize index.html, make sure these files are copied according to the recommendations in Customizing index.html.

Make sure the dynamic parameter  {{cachebust}} is updated in the index.html, which looks like this:

<script src="mxclientsystem/mxui/mxui.js?{{cachebust}}"></script>
